The circumstances of the conclusion and media coverage of the 1973 Prague Treaty between the Czechoslovakia and Germany
JANEČKOVÁ, Šárka
The bachelor thesis deals with the circumstances surrounding the signing of the Prague Treaty in 1973 between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. It presents the controversial issues that accompanied the negotiations. The fundamental disagreement lay in different interpretations of the validity of the Munich Agreement. The signing of the Prague Treaty made possible a process of détente in international relations that supported West German Chancellor Willy Brandt's concept of neue Ostpolitik. The bachelor's thesis further presents the media image of the conclusion of the Prague Treaty, while there was a significant difference between the periodicals published in Czechoslovakia and in Western Europe, which resulted from the different conception of the role of the media in the political system.

Hejnová, Tereza ; Raška, Francis (advisor) ; Calda, Miloš (referee)
Bachelor thesis "1962: The world on the brink of disaster" discusses several days at the end of October 1962 - the Caribbean crisis. Caribbean crisis has become one of the worst crises of the Cold War and during the crisis world was really on the verge of outbreak of nuclear war. The work focuses on addressing this crisis, from the American side. U.S. representatives were at this time dilemma - how to achieve that the missiles were withdrawn from Cuba while also maintaining peace? They had many options. And about how these options they are interested. I'm trying to break down the process of thinking, consider how risk what options were and what conclusions they reached. Why they chose a blockade of the island? What were other suggestions? These are questions with which they deal, and we're trying to find an answer. The possibilities were many and included a direct military attack on the island. The blockade of the island, however, represents the least risk of conflict with the Soviet Union.

Márová, Tereza ; Švec, Luboš (advisor) ; Šlosarčík, Ivo (referee)
The restoration of independence of the three Baltic States occurred in 1991. However the previous period of Soviet occupation brought dire, and to a large extent, permanent changes in the ethnic composition of the population. The changes were the primary reason why both countries had fairly restrictive conditions in the revival of civil status - citizenship was given to pre-war citizens and their direct descendants. This thesis by comparative analysis tries to find out the main differences and similarities in the dynamics of naturalization process in Latvia and Estonia. The dynamics will be analyzed from 1995 to 2005. Latvian naturalization process began in 1995. The year 2005 is characterized by a dramatic changes in preferences of non- citizens, which probably occurred after the accession to the European Union. The first part presents the important concepts of the work and presentment of the two countries at the beginning of the 1990s. Then the comparative analysis follows itself. Naturalization is analyzed according to the characters, which, I believe, had the most important influence on the dynamics of the process - Citizenship Act (and its amendments), Language Act, the accession of both countries to the EU and other economical reasons. Keywords The Soviet Union, Latvia, Estonia,...

The thesis focuses on a historical narrative promoted by president Putin during his first two terms in office during the years 2000 - 2008. Furthermore it aims to analyse the consequences of Putin's uses of history on the domestic and the international level. First, theoretical aspects of political use of history are drafted since they are essential to understand the role history plays in a nation-building process. Consequently, tools used to promote a certain historical narrative are mentioned. The work describes main problems related to the formation of Russian post-Soviet identity and analyses causes of Yeltsin's failure in this task. Subsequently, Putin's political visions such as a need of strong Russia and restoration of great power status are presented. The work also identifies how Putin's political goals project into his view of history. The main characteristics of Putin's historical narrative are analysed on a basis of secondary literature and Putin's speeches. The thesis focuses separately on Putin's use of symbols of three Russian historical époques - the Tsarist Russia, the Soviet Union and the Yeltsin era. Emphasis is put on Putin's attitude towards the Soviet past since his Second World War narrative and his view of Stalin represent a major source of controversies. The consequences of...
